Medicash: A new way to make healthcare accessible in Haiti

In Haiti, healthcare remains a luxury. Every day, thousands of families face a dilemma: pay for a doctor's appointment or feed their children. The high cost of care, the lack of adequate health insurance, and poor medical infrastructure leave the majority of the population without a safety net.

It is in this context that Medicash was born, an initiative led by Vizit Doktè to transform the way Haitians access healthcare.

Unlike traditional insurance, which is often inaccessible and expensive, Medicash is a mutual health insurance scheme inspired by the Haitian principle of konbit: everyone contributes a little, and everyone benefits.

Our vision is simple: to put solidarity at the heart of the healthcare system so that no one is left behind.

With Medicash, we want to:

  1. Reduce medical expenses through a common fund that covers part of the costs.

  2. Facilitate access to specialized care, which is often unaffordable or unavailable locally.

  3. Invest in healthcare in Haiti by supporting clinics, equipment, and medical infrastructure.

  4. Give patients dignity by allowing them to seek treatment without going into debt or foregoing necessary care.

  5. A collective and lasting impact

Medicash is not just a financial service, it is a solidarity movement that is changing the trajectory of healthcare in Haiti. The more members there are, the stronger the mutual insurance company becomes, and the more accessible healthcare becomes. By protecting each individual, we strengthen families, support communities, and help build a more resilient healthcare system.

At Vizit Doktè, we believe that healthcare is a fundamental right, not a privilege reserved for the few. With Medicash, we are paving a new path where every Haitian can access dignified, affordable, and quality care.

Medicash is the power of konbit applied to healthcare: together, we are building a more equitable and united future.
